Christine "Lady Bird" McPherson

Greta Gerwig's debut into directing featured a memorable character, Christine McPherson, who appointed herself the name "Lady Bird". For those who are not familiar with the movie, it is a coming-of-age film that follows the life of rebellious teenager Lady Bird as she navigates love, friendship, her own goals, and self-identity. A major theme of the movie is her relationship with her mother, which is more turbulent than not. The two do share many tender-hearted moments, and ultimately they both want the best for each other. However, this often gets lost in heated moments of tension between Lady Bird and her mother.

Lady Bird dreams of leaving her hometown of Sacramento as she applies and tours colleges. This is a point of contention between Lady Bird and her mother, as her mother expresses the belief that Lady Bird will not reach this goal. There are many factors at play, including their families finances and her mother's ideation that Lady Bird is a selfish teenager who care solely about herself.

Throughout the movie, viewers connect with Lady Bird as she explores different friendships and relationships, including her own with her mother. Many of the themes that are prevalent throughout the movie are ones that nearly every teenager experiences, allowing viewers to really connect with Lady Bird and what she stands for.
